Presidents Day

president.jpgDid you know that presidents day was originally George Washington’s birthday? Well almost, the first actual day of national celebration was in 1796, however George Washington was really born on the 22 of February, according to the calender that has been used since the mid-18th century but if you look at the calender  that was used back then his date of birth would be the 11th.  While Washington’s Day was a federally observed holiday for the 22, the legisation was moved to change it to the third Monday in February whether it fell on the 22 or not (in order to condense and simplify the modern calender in 1968). But now this day is not only for President George Washington but also for President Abraham Lincoln. President Lincoln was also born in February(12th), the first national day of recantation was in 1865, the year after his assassination.
